WEEK 5 - Structural Bay

Structural Plan & Section: My structural system for the residential section of this building mostly consists of post-tension concrete slabs with concrete columns. I will utilize diagonal bracing along the north wall and counting the vertical stair and elevator towers for sheer strength. There is a 4’ overhang in the front and I’m resolving this with a 12” slab thickness throughout.

In the main studio space, large diagonal braces between columns will support the trusses that form the roof. Post-tension concrete slabs will create the studio, ramps, and model shop platforms. I will use fire doors along the perimeter of the studio and model shop levels to close off an egress path to either stair well or the ramps which will be enclosed by a fire wall inside the exterior North wall (Thank you for the comments Gerry!)

The Exhibit hall will be separated from the rest of the building by a 3-hour fire wall. Cast in place concrete walls and post-tension roof will form the Exhibit space.
